While the Americana movement dates back many decades – and includes many sub-genres including Folk Rock, Alt-Country, Neo-Folk, Y’Alternative, etc. – it has become a genre that is no longer purely American, regardless of its name. Although manufactured Pop usually rules the charts and the airwaves, Americana has been lovingly embraced by both critics and music fans alike. Some of the most critically acclaimed Americana artists include The Jayhawks, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Dawes, Gillian Welch, the Avett Brothers, and many others. And judging by those names alone. Americana is a genre that isn’t always easy to define. And it certainly knows no borders…
Although born in England, singer and songwriter Hannah White is one of the most celebrated ‘new’ artists in the Americana genre today. She came to prominence with the release of the 2016 album WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? She followed that release with the album ELEPHANT EYE (2018), which was followed by the album HANNAH WHITE AND THE NORDIC CONNECTIONS (2020), which found her collaborating with a group of Norwegian Americana musicians. In 2022, she issued the ABOUT TIME album, which received critical praise across the board. The album included the song “Car Crash,” which earned Hannah a Song of the Year award from the Americana Music Association UK in 2023.
Hannah White returns in 2024 with the highly anticipated album SWEET REVOLUTION. The album – produced by The Magic Numbers’ Michele Stodart – continues to expand on Hannah’s musical growth, revealing more layers to her music than ever before. With tracks like “Chains of Ours,” “Hail the Fighter,” “One Night Stand,” and “Right on Time,” Hannah White proves that her previous albums were no fluke and that she is more than worthy of even greater success with this release. More importantly, she still sounds unique, and you can feel her connection with the songs that she’s written. And when an artist is honest and up-front, the listener cannot help but pay attention. So, prepare yourself for a SWEET REVOLUTION with Hannah White.
