AMPED™ Welcomes New Label Compound Interest to the family!

Compound Interest was founded by Brian Shafton in 2021. During his decade long tenure as VP of Sales, Shafton cut his teeth during the golden era of hip hop at Priority Records (NWA, Ice Cube, Master P, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Friday soundtrack, etc…). Shafton leveraged that success as he formed his own company, RBC Records in 2002. RBC Records had two divisions to it. The first segment was a label that boasted a roster which included: Chief Keef, Gucci Mane, Run the Jewels, KSI, Waka Flocka, Big L, EPMD, DAX, Merkules, and more. The other component was a label services division where RBC would act as the General Manager for some of hip hop’s most iconic labels/artists such as Strange Music/Tech N9ne, E-40, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, DJ Quik, Raphael Saadiq, Jill Scott, DAX, Merkules, and more. In 2018, Shafton sold RBC Records to BMG and became the SVP of Recorded Music for BMG through 2021. As soon as Shafton fulfilled his commitment to BMG, he left to form his new venture, COMPOUND INTEREST. In these two short years, Compound Interest has signed Ralan Styles (upstreamed to Republic), DJ Quik, Mack 10, C-Bo, Vin Jay, Skydxddy, and others. Compound Interest also rekindled its GM relationship with Strange/Tech N9ne and E-40 and expanded to include Run It Up which recently had “PTPOM” and “Sneaky Link” go gold.

With very deep roots (30+ years in hip hop), you can count on Compound Interest delivering you today’s hottest new songs as well as paying homage to those legendary artists who have paved the way to hip hop’s 50th anniversary. Compound Interest’s first vinyl release is Kurupt and C-Mob’s album “Don’t Be Stupid” dropping on July 14th. We will follow that up by celebrating the 30th anniversary to C-Bo’s “Gas Chamber” that will be released for RSD Black Friday. DJ Quik and Mack 10 are each working on new solo projects and vinyl will be an integral part of the rollout. We also are in talks about releasing Jelly Roll’s “Self Medicated” and “A Beautiful Disaster” for the first time on vinyl as well as deluxe Tech N9ne classic albums!!

For any fans of hip hop or if your stores sell hip hop, keep your eyes open for Compound Interest.

Thank you,

Pip Smith
