Formed in London, England in 2016, Sleep Token is a Heavy Metal band that has often been labelled Alternative Metal, Progressive Metal, Post-Metal, and several other sub-genre and sub-sub-genres. This anonymous musical collective – fronted by ‘Vessel’ – first came to the attention of Metal fans when they released their first single, “Thread the Needle,” in September 2016. Three months later, they issued their debut EP, ONE, which brought them even more attention. Their next EP, TWO, was issued in 2017 and included the singles “Calcutta” and “Nazareth.”
After two singles in 2018 – “Jaws” and “The Way That You Were” – Sleep Token signed to Spinefarm Records and issued their debut album, SUNDOWNING, in 2019. The album received positive reviews and the group’s popularity began to spread outside of their home country. The deluxe version of the album included unlikely covers of Billy Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over” and Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” The group’s momentum was briefly derailed by the COVID-19 lockdowns, but they came back stronger than ever with their second album THIS PLACE WILL BECOME YOUR TOMB (2021), which was a chart success in the UK and Scotland.
Already being touted as their best album to date, Sleep Token returns in 2023 with TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN. The album, which is being called the final chapter of the trilogy that began with SUNDOWNING, contains the singles “Chokehold,” “The Summoning,” “Granite,” “Aqua Regia,” “Vore,” and “DYWTYLM.” However, there are six other tracks on the album that are waiting to be explored. Bandleader Vessel – referred to as Vessel1 – handles all of the instruments on the album apart from drums, which were played by Vessel2. With production by Carl Brown and Vessel1, TAKE ME BACK TO EDEN is the group’s most emotional – and some say most commercial – album to date.
