Country / Americana / Bluegrass singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks grew up in a series of small towns before his family settled in North Carolina when he was 12 years old. Raised in a family of musicians, he had begun playing the banjo at the age of 6 but switched his attention to the guitar five years later. After graduating high school in 1980, he relocated to New York to attend college. While at school, he began to play some of the folk clubs and coffee houses on campus and in Greenwich Village. After two years, Fulks dropped out of school to pursue a career in music. His journey would lead him to Chicago before eventually landing in Nashville, where he signed with a publisher as a songwriter.

Robbie Fulks finally released his solo debut album, COUNTRY LOVE SONGS, in 1996. After the release of SOUTH MOUTH (1997), he signed with Geffen Records for his third album, LET’S KILL SATURDAY NIGHT (1998). After Geffen folded, Fulks set up his own label and issued THE VERY BEST OF ROBBIE FULKS (2000), which was, in fact, a collection of previously unreleased songs. A critically acclaimed artist, he continued to release well-received albums including GEORGIA HARD (2005), REVENGE (2007), and GONE AWAY (2013). His 2016 album, UPLAND STORIES, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album and the song “Alabama At Night” also received a nomination for Best American Roots Song. In 2019, he released the acclaimed album 16.

In 2023, Robbie Fulks returns with BLUEGRASS VACATION, an album that – as the title implies – brings his Bluegrass influences to the fore. While Bluegrass has always been a part of Fulks’ oeuvre, on this album, he is joined by some of his musician friends including Alison Brown, Sam Bush, Tim O’Brien, Jerry Douglas, Ronnie McCoury, and Sierra Hull. While he’s already released the tracks “Longhair Bluegrass” and “One Glass of Whiskey,” those are just the tip of the iceberg. Fulks’ blend of Bluegrass, Folk, and Country provide the musical landscape for other album highlights including “Molly and the Old Man,” “Angels Carry Me,” “Momma’s Eyes,” “Lonely Ain’t Hardly Alive,” and “Let the Old Dog In.” If you are already well-versed in Fulks’ musical output, BLUEGRASS VACATION is a logical progression for this talented musical chameleon who still manages to surprise and excite his fanbase nearly three decades into his recording career.
