Born Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho in London, England, the singer and songwriter is better known by her stage name, Arlo Parks. She began her musical career in 2018 when she uploaded her demo recordings to BBC Music Introducing, which was a platform created to support unsigned and new artists. Her music – influenced by artists as varied as Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, and Sylvia Plath – caught the attention of many UK DJs, and she was soon hooked up with a manager and released her first single, “Cola.” The single was met with a lot of attention and Arlo Parks became the talk of the town.

Signing with Transgressive Records, Arlo Parks released her debut EP, SUPER SAD GENERATION, in January 2019. She began playing live for the first time several months later and issued several singles before the release of her second EP, SOPHIE, in December 2019. With her touring commitments in 2020 sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic, she continued issuing new singles including “Eugene” and “Black Dog.” She released her debut album, the Grammy-nominated COLLAPSED IN SUNDREAMS, in January 2021, which won the Hyundai Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. Arlo Parks also won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award at the 2021 BRIT Awards.

In 2023, Arlo Parks releases her sophomore album MY SOFT MACHINE, which includes some her most personal material yet. The critically acclaimed album – recorded in Los Angeles and London – includes the singles “Weightless,” “Impurities,” “Blades,” and “Pegasus.” However, there is more to MY SOFT MACHINE than meets the ear. This is a much more emotional album than her debut and the lyrics give a peek inside Parks’ ever-changing life over the last two years. Both strong and frail at the same time, MY SOFT MACHINE explores human emotions in meaningful and powerful ways. Time to dive in and discover the inner workings of this musical machine…
